Fioli Mansion Shopping

Holiday Shopping at Fioli Mansion in Woodside

To kick off the holiday season, Gadabouts spent the day shopping in the gorgeous Filoli Mansion in Woodside.  We were in awe by all the glitter and all those wise old owls—which symbolizes protection, wisdom and intuition.

Each room of the mansion was decorated for the season and filled with boutique items-clothing, holiday décor, wreaths, ornaments, homemade chocolate, jams, jellies just to name a few.     Everyone found several gifts and loved the concept of one stop shopping in such a beautiful environment and knowing that all our purchases were going to a charity. Everyone shopped until  they dropped and we certainly built up an appetite.

Our lunch was at the Village Pub in Woodside!  Kudos to Sondra’s husband Tom for recommending the Pub.  Each dish was presented so beautifully and was delicious, none were disappointed.  The service was impeccable and the conversation at lunch was so warm and welcoming.  We were so interested in seeing everyone’s order and shared our plates!  Until next year….

November 2011 Luncheon

November’s Luncheon at FAZ in Danville

San-Ramon-Newcomers-ClubAnother fabulous luncheon at Faz in Danville.  Roasted Salmon, Chicken Kabob’s or Penne Pasta were all to die for…and if that wasn’t enough, Tiramisu with Raspberry drizzle topped off the meal to everyone’s delight.

Our speaker was Jean Meredith from “The One Hundred Club” of Contra Costa County.  The purpose of the Hundred Club is to help provide immediate financial support for the spouses and children of police and firefighters who lose their lives as a direct result of physical injuries sustained in the line of duty.  A very worthwhile cause.

Thanks to all you police, firefighters and your families!

G.E. Bringing 400 Jobs to San Ramon

General Electric announced last week that they are creating a new software center in San Ramon that will bring 400 new jobs to Bishop Ranch. Perhaps we will see some additions to the San Ramon Newcomers Club in 2012.

Tracey & Craig Harper, Realtors in San Ramon and sponsors of our website, think this may bring good news for the San Ramon real estate market – maybe a 5% or more bump in home sales for 2012. Great news for anyone thinking of selling a home in 2012 or 2013.

Let’s all keep our ears to the ground for more news on how this will affect our community.

San Ramon Newcomers Club Giving Back

The San Ramon Newcomers Club (SRVNC) each month organizes parties for the children of “Love a Child Mission Homeless Shelter” located in Bay point, CA.  Our “Party Grannies” collect birthday and holiday gifts and throw a fun party for these children that include face painting, games and prizes, music, gifts, cake, drinks, decorations and a lot of love.

Shown here is Pat S. collecting Christmas gifts and monetary donations given by SRVNC members at our November 2011 Luncheon.

November Turkey Group

An Early Thanksgiving Dinner

Thanksgiving San Ramon CAAs usual, Myrna’s annual November Turkey group was a gastronomic success.   Thirteen members attended with assorted side dishes and desserts.  John and Myrna cooked the turkey, stuffing and gravy;  they also provided appetizers and wine for the meal.

Guests brought two unique stuffing dishes, pumpkin raviolis, jello salad, fruited cranberry sauce, Brussels sprouts, mashed cauliflower, gratin potatoes, and a corn casserole.   As if this was not enough, three desserts appeared on our plates – a pumpkin brownie, a pumpkin cake-pie, and a three-tiered cake.

Leftovers were shared and packaged up and we all waddled to our cars and made plans to exercise more this weekend.

Pumpkin Cake-Pie   (Barbara Alvine   11/11)

4 large eggs. slightly beaten
1 package yellow cake mix
1 large can pumpkin ( or 2 small)
1 cup finely chopped nuts
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 cup melted unsalted butter
1 tsp salt
1 tsp ground ginger
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp ground cloves
1 tall can evaporated milk
whipped cream or Cool Whip ( optional)

Mix above ingredients in left column in order given.  Pour into 9 x 13 pan or glass dish.  Sprinkle cake mix and nuts over top.   Bake at 325 degrees for about 1 1/4 hours until knife comes out clean.  Cool. Cut into squares and decorate with whipped cream, if desired.  Enjoy!

Remington Trail Hike

Hiking Remington TrailHiking Remington Trail

We did hike on Friday since it looked like little to no rain. We managed to get to the beginning of the large loop up the hill before we turned back because was raining harder with more wind. Muff, Claudia, Kathy, Jeanne, Bobbie, Rose and Pat joined me.

As we were going down the hill we were surprised how much mud accumulated on the trail with such little rain since it stopped as we headed down. See photo off our boots. We did hike for the 2 hours since we also walked the neighborhoods behind the Livery before enjoying our bagels. Rose showed us a “secret” passage from a street that lead to the back of  McCaulous Store.

Hiking Lake Chabot

Hiking Lake ChabotLake Chabot Hike

Nov. 4, 2011, we hiked around the back side of Lake Chabot. We hiked on both paved and dirt trails. The latter were a little muddy but the beautiful crisp views made a little mud worth it.

Today’s hikers were Jeanne, Muff, Pat, Carol, Bobbi, Lois, Rose and Sharon. We walked briskly and hiked a little over 4 miles in about 2 hours. We saw a cormorants and ducks in the lake along with several fishermen and many hikers getting in a hike before more expected rain. It was a beautiful day.

We missed you Claudia and hope you are feeling better.

Happy Trails, Sharon
