Friday’s Hike

San Ramon Newcomers HikeWe had sunny, cool weather for this open grassy hilly hike on Friday. Muff, Rose Angelika and her sister, and Pat joined me.

Our excitement for the day was coming across the baby king snake on the trail. We also saw quite a few fence lizards. Great views, we could see the bay salt ponds and Quarry lakes in Fremont.

We went to Bay Street Bagels at the Livery, I just don’t like the one on bollinger. We sat outside, so nice and pleasant. These are photos from my new camera, so much sharper then my old one.

Franklin Loop Trail Hike

Hiking the Franklin Loop Trail – Martinez CA

Franklin Loop Trail Martinez CAOn Friday we finally hiked the Franklin loop trail that I have been wanting to do for months. Sharon, Bobbi, Kathy, Colette, Muff, Jeanne (first time hiking with us),Pat,Cheryl, Barbara, Rose and Shirley joined me.

We did have an overcast day but pleasant weather for hiking. It was a good workout in elevation gain and loss and made it harder to hike since the loop trail was potted with cow hoof indentations made during the rains this winter. Behind the group is Carquinez Strait and the bridge.

We were certainly ready as we were last week for those delicious bagels.

Always a great group of women hikers!

Morgan Territory Hike

Hiking Morgan Territory

Colette sent me the MapMyRun site.

You can even see our hike from a Google Earth. It says ONLY 800 elevation gain. Still I think we did terrific.

The hike was about 2 hours 10 minutes and we did 4.3 miles. Great workout and beautiful wildflowers. I will be sending my photos via Kodak Gallery.

Thanks for the great hike Fran. Happy Trails, Sharon

Acalanes Ridge Hike

Borgess Ranch in Walnut Creek

Borgess Ranch -  Walnut Creek Hike

Borgess Ranch Walnut Creek CaliforniaToday we hiked out from Borgess Ranch in Walnut Creek. The skies were clear blue and the hills emerald green. The early wildflowers are just starting to come out. We saw buttercups, fiddlenecks, lupine, california poppies, and geraniums.

We hiked for about 3 1/2 miles on  beautiful rolling hills. We even hiked one section of the trail twice, passing two cows who looked at us with a questioning gaze. Eventually we found the continuation  of the Ridge trail with its awesome vistas in all directions. Our hike lasted about 1 hour 45 minutes.

Next time we are in the area we will hike up to the top of Shell Ridge which Barbara pointed out to us today. We didn’t go as far as I had outlined so next time we will start at the other end of the trail and hike to where we ended today. Shell Ridge is such a beautiful area. How wonderful that the people of Walnut Creek at the foresight to save these beautiful hills for all of our enjoyment!

Hike to Ygnacio Canal Trail

Friday Hike to Ygnacio Canal Trail

ygnacio canal trailWe hiked the paved trail on Friday because of rain and even though it rained consistently the last fourth of the hike we didn’t get muddy, just ‘soaked like rabbits’.

Sharon, Muff, Pat, Angelika, Aleta, Rose and Shirley and I really!!!! enjoyed the hot coffees and bagel pizzas afterwards. Again my apology for forgetting to call Claudia to join us for lunch.

What a good looking bunch of women!

Picture from Briones Park Hike

Briones Park Hike

Here we are at the highest point of our hike with Mt. Diablo in the background. It looks like we hiked about 700 ft in elevation, I think the last half a mile up was about 400ft of it! Lovely day with a lovely group.

Iron Horse Trail Hike or Briones Park Trail?

Friday’s Hike Up in the Air

Since it looks like rain or snow on Friday morning I think beginning the Iron Horse Trail at the Sycamore Park & Ride would be a good choice. We can take it towards Danville where we can duck into buildings if we get a sudden down pour. If it looks like we will not have rain or snow I would like to go to Briones park trail at the entrance off of Pleasanton Hill Rd., the first exit off of 24. It is in total sunllight and switchbacks up the mountain. It is an out and back hike.

We will leave the Sycamore Valley Park and Ride at 8:30am and see how far the weather allows us to go. Please let me know if you can join me. If the weather looks likes it being delayed for later on Friday, I will email you the we will be going to Briones park trail.

Water, Water Everywhere – Lafayette Reservoir

Lafayette CA ReservoirLafayette Reservoir Hike

Today six of us hiked at the Lafayette Reservoir. The rain held off for our first trip around the reservoir. After that, we braved the drizzle and then light rain.

Fran, who led the hike, took our group photo of the children’s playground.

Redwood Park Hike

Hiking in Redwood Park

Here is the group photo from last week at Redwood Park. Muff, Shirley, Rose, Sharon, Cheryl and Pat joined me on the hike.

Redwood Park Hike

Here is the photo from today’s hike on the Rossmoor Trail. Sharon, Shirley, Muff, Aleta, Angelika and Pat take a break on this rod iron bench at the top of a peak. We were wondering how it got there. It looks like a bench you would see in a garden, not a park type bench. Barbara and Sondra joined us for lunch. Aleta made a chocolate cake with tasty fudge-like frosting. We sang a rousing, but somewhat off key, Happy Birthday to Sharon and truly enjoyed the cake and each others company.
