Great Hike in new area of Shell Ridge. 5.6 mile and three major ups and downs ranging from 250 ft to 720 ft elevation. Loved seeing the two coyotes and the green grass trying to peak though. The hike lasted 2 hr. 44 minutes and we averaged 2 miles per hour.

Pat, Jeanne, Aleta and Sharon did the 5 mile hike in 2 hours ( a couple of tenths weren’t recorded.) The second half was a little wet but that just hurried us along a bit! Afterwards we had lunch at Lucca’s, a good Italian deli in Castro Valley that Jeanne recommended.

On December 30th Pat, Rose, Bobbi, Shirley, Muff, Jeanne and Sharon hiked two laps around the Lafayette reservoir. There were a lot of people out walking with babies and dogs.

We saw white pelicans, egrets, and Jeanne and Muff spotted a river otter. We enjoyed looking at the holiday tree decorated with ornaments placed on it by people passing by.

The day was dry with a light drizzle early on that made the paved trail a little slippery. Afterwards we enjoyed lunch at Bagel Street Cafe.

It was a nice ending to 2011.

Hiking Remington Trail

We did hike on Friday since it looked like little to no rain. We managed to get to the beginning of the large loop up the hill before we turned back because was raining harder with more wind. Muff, Claudia, Kathy, Jeanne, Bobbie, Rose and Pat joined me.

As we were going down the hill we were surprised how much mud accumulated on the trail with such little rain since it stopped as we headed down. See photo off our boots. We did hike for the 2 hours since we also walked the neighborhoods behind the Livery before enjoying our bagels. Rose showed us a “secret” passage from a street that lead to the back of  McCaulous Store.

Nov. 4, 2011, we hiked around the back side of Lake Chabot. We hiked on both paved and dirt trails. The latter were a little muddy but the beautiful crisp views made a little mud worth it.

Today’s hikers were Jeanne, Muff, Pat, Carol, Bobbi, Lois, Rose and Sharon. We walked briskly and hiked a little over 4 miles in about 2 hours. We saw a cormorants and ducks in the lake along with several fishermen and many hikers getting in a hike before more expected rain. It was a beautiful day.

We missed you Claudia and hope you are feeling better.

Hiking Mitchell Canyon & Globe Lily Trail

I know this is a shock that I am sending these photos out so soon. Even on the day of the hike!  OK, I am glad that I did bet Sharon in getting these out to you.

Caudia, lois, Sharon, Jeanne, Pat, Rose and Shirley joined me on this incredible day. We started out on Mitchell Canyon and then took Globe Lily trail as it parallels Mitchell for about 1/2 mile. I thought we turned back on to Mitchell but realized after about another 1/2 mile that we were on Red Road trail.

This trail led us up to some nice views but the 3 extensions trails from Red rd. all ended at private property after short distances. We turned around and picked up Mitchell canyon trail and back to the parking lot.

We didn’t see any tarantulas. So this is kind of a new hike.

I must have had my camera on a wrong setting for the first few. They were fuzzy, much like me today LOL. Very enjoyable hike through the redwoods today Fran and good to seeing some of our regulars back, Claudia and Lois.
