G.E. Bringing 400 Jobs to San Ramon
General Electric announced last week that they are creating a new software center in San Ramon that will bring 400 new jobs to Bishop Ranch. Perhaps we will see some additions to the San Ramon Newcomers Club in 2012.
Tracey & Craig Harper, Realtors in San Ramon and sponsors of our website, think this may bring good news for the San Ramon real estate market – maybe a 5% or more bump in home sales for 2012. Great news for anyone thinking of selling a home in 2012 or 2013.
Let’s all keep our ears to the ground for more news on how this will affect our community.

Love a Child
The San Ramon Newcomers Club (SRVNC) each month organizes parties for the children of “Love a Child Mission Homeless Shelter” located in Bay point, CA. Our “Party Grannies” collect birthday and holiday gifts and throw a fun party for these children that include face painting, games and prizes, music, gifts, cake, drinks, decorations and a lot of love.
Shown here is Pat S. collecting Christmas gifts and monetary donations given by SRVNC members at our November 2011 Luncheon.

Photos of Newcomer Hike in Regional Regional Park
The foggy skies made for some interesting photography.
The streams were flowing and the trails muddy but not enough to keep us from side stepping the muddy spots.
Fran has the group shot. Thanks for the fun hike, as always, Fran!

December 2010
This message is for the most outstanding group of ladies that I have had the honor and pleasure of working with. Each group of ladies, Executive Board, Committee Chairpersons, and Activities Chairpersons is what makes this club as successful as it is. We all work behind the scenes giving our time, talent and enthusiasm to Newcomers. I applaud you all for such a successful year. I look forward to a continued relationship with you all, in 2011. God Bless, and have a wonderful, healthy holiday season to you and your families.
A NEWCOMERS TALE
I woke up this morning drowning in fright it’s my very first board meeting, and oh what a night. I prepared for the meeting and tried not to dwell, I am as nervous as can be, and prey it goes well. My friends are all here as I give it a go, and now it’s time to start the show. I thank the hostess and move right along, as now is the time for me to stay strong. The minutes are read by Barbara our pro, and everyone seems so full of glow. I take a deep breath and ease into my seat and start to relax and become more upbeat. Joyce tracks all the cash we have on hand, and says we can use it as previously planned. The excitement is rising as we move right along my heart is now singing a happier song. Susan now stands and outlines her plan, and when it’s all over we give her a hand. Grace is busy planning programs and such but always manages to keep in touch. Her programs are fun and full of surprise, and always seems to meet a high. So far so good, as no one has left, and now I can take another long breath. Carolyn tracks the membership dues, and now is time to give us the news. Our numbers are up, oh what a feeling, as I look around everyone is cheering. Sharon fills the newsletter with wonderful stuff, and when it’s complete she adds all the fluff. She prepares each article for final print, giving us all just a bit of a hint. Tracey is busy but always finds time to post on the Website in the shortest of time. Paula works toward making us known, and does it all from her very own home. Candice delivers the news to all and has never dropped the ball. Bernice and Sondra have shown us the sights and each one has been a real delight. Adrienne took lead with social events, while listening to everyone add their two cents. Dale and Grace focused on wine, choosing the ones that were totally fine. Tina coordinated all cooking events, making sure we all went. We ate and ate and got into the mood and in the end had wonderful food. Myrna chaired Restaurant Review and chose so many wonderful restaurants nobody knew. We ate and drank on many of days, and shared our stories all the way. Lee and Cheryl greeted our guests, while others took a bit of a rest. Jan heads up Mah Jongg with such delight, while baming and cracking without even a fight. She will plan our coffees for next year always exhibiting such loving care. Ginny took lead in Mexican Train and never exhibited a bit of strain. Sharon planned some wonderful hikes that were all met with such delight. Suzanne choose books for all to read while making new friends that we all need. Judy delights in good conversation while hosting a group making their creations. Judy, Marian, and Mary keep us laughing away, as we all strive for BUNCO’S in our own way. Mary bought prizes to raffle away; this caused our members to want to stay.
As I end the meeting I can truly say, you all helped me decide to come back another day.
Fondly,
Anita

SRVNC Volunteer Group New Project
Due to job loss and or home loss, many families have been forced to choose between feeding themselves or their pets – as a result, many animals have been relinquished or abandoned due to their owner’s inability to care for them. The Contra Costa Humane Society recently introduced the ANIMEALS PROGRAM, a pet food bank, in partnership with the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano Counties – so far 655 animals have been fed and 276 families have been able to keep their companion animals.
The SRVNC Volunteer Group has added the ANIMEALS PROGRAM to their list of charities to support. If any hiker is interested in donating dog or cat food (can or dry), please bring it along on the Friday hikes and Rose Towery will collect it. Also, if you will be doing the May 1 Hope Hospice walk, you can also give it to Rose at that time, at the parking area. Collecting of dog/cat food will end on the May 14th hike – to be continued in August, when I am back in Danville – It will be noted in the August SRVNC Newsletter.
Thanks,
Rose

Oct 2nd hike to Morgan Territory
Last Friday the crisp air and bright blue skies let us know Fall is here on our hike at Morgan Territory. We hiked along Blue Oak, Hummingbird, Volvon, Prairie Falcon, and Condor Trails,. We hiked an easy loop through the golden grass mostly along a winding road with glimpses of Mt. Diablo appearing around many corners.
Hikers were Aleta (thank you for driving up the windy road), Claudia, Barbara, Judie, Rose, and Sharon. We didn’t see any coyotes but we did see a deer along the road driving in but the big surprise was the pond full of jumping frogs. When we got to the pond the frogs that were camouflaged in the mud starting jumping into the pond by the hundreds. Our frog walker, Claudia, discovered that if she walked the length of the pond they would all jump in as if on cue as she approached them. I hung around at the pond taking photos of the frogs, several basking in the sun on the lily pads. That would have been my choice over the mud! The group continued on another 30 minutes.
The group hiked for a little over 3 miles in about 1 hour 45 minutes.
Save Oct 23rd for our FALL PICNIC. Fran will be planning another one of her great hikes and I will be planning a picnic after it.
Happy Trails, Sharon

Mama Mia, what a night of food and wine at the February Wine Tasting.
Bob an Dale Skok entertained us with pasta and sauces paired with excellent wines from Italy. We hope Bob will share his secret sauces.
We had a small group due to some members who were sick, but those of us, there, made up for. This is a group that enjoys fine wines and wants to share this experience with others.
We are fortunate that a new member, Grace Ayers has volunteered to co-chair with Dale. Welcome Grace…
