Hi Newcomer Friday Hikers,
Today, Dec 6, 2007, turned out to be a sunny day after raining most of the night and early morning. April, Chris, and I decided to go to Lake Chabot and “hike” on the paved trail around part of the lake. Along the way we saw 4 double breasted cormorants perched on top of branches in the water. We saw numerous American Coots, easily identified by their white beak. We also saw mallards, a great blue heron, and Canada Geese, The weather was in the 50’s, nice for hiking. We hiked about 4 1/2 miles total. We hiked out to the park boundary on the west side of the lake and read about the historic water filtration system that was built there in 1888. A man pointed out a cork tree to us. It was a good hike. As usual, we hiked for two hours.
I have postponed the hike to Coyote Hills until next Friday, December 14th. That will be the last hike in December.
Happy Trails, Sharon
