Lake Chabot Hike

ChabotHi Newcomer Friday Hikers,

Today, Dec 6, 2007,  turned out to be a sunny day after raining most of the night and early morning. April, Chris, and I decided to go to Lake Chabot and “hike” on the paved trail around part of the lake. Along the way we saw 4 double breasted cormorants perched on top of branches in the water. We saw numerous American Coots, easily identified by their white beak. We also saw mallards, a great blue heron,  and  Canada Geese,  The weather was in the 50’s, nice for hiking. We hiked about 4 1/2 miles total. We hiked out to the park boundary on the west side of the lake and read about the historic water filtration system that was built there in 1888. A man pointed out a cork tree to us. It was a good hike.  As usual, we hiked for two hours.

I have postponed the hike to Coyote Hills until next Friday, December 14th.  That will be the last hike in December.

Hemme Trail Hike

Hemme_hikeHi Newcomer Friday Hikers and Guests,

Friday, Nov. 30th, Rose, Barbara, Cindy,  Kathy, Lois, Jacky and Sharon hiked up Hemme Trail at Las Trampas. It was an invigorating hike. On the ridge, Madrone Trail, we saw several cows and calves. The day was clear with lovely fall views of Mt. Diablo and surrounding communities.

We hiked an hour out and an hour back. It Heeme_hike2was nice to have Rose back from Montana and hiking with us again.

Afterwards, Cathy K. and Claudia joined us at Bagel Street Cafe for lunch.

Next Week, Dec. 7th, we will hike at Coyote Hills in Freemont. It is bird migration time again. This is an easy hike along the board walks. For those interested we can add a hill to get some extra, optional exercise. If you haven’t hiked with us before, this a good one for a beginner.
